A Very Sad Goodbye

Today the news for me was confirmed. Bell Motor company is closing it doors. After 85 years in our Leonardtown Square, we are preparing to say goodbye. I never worked at Bell Motor. None of my family ever worked there...but my friends, the Bells, have given their life to that company. My first new car was purchased from Bell Motors. I remember being so excited and hugging Frank Bell as he handed me the keys. I felt like I was buying the car from my best friend. That was over 30 years ago and today, I still hug Mr. Bell when I see him. I am sad for this loss...I am sad for the fine Bell family, I am sad for our town. An icon is leaving us, taking memories that all who know the Bell family can relate to. I will miss Bell Motors as much as I would miss any friend. I will miss waving to them as I drive thru town. I will miss circling the parking lot to see whats new in their line. I'll miss all of it. Won't we all?
