The life of a first grader is certainly a new experience...being a first grader in the Heimer house adds a whole new dimension. My son and daughter-in-law run themselves ragged to be sure their boys live a full, rich life. They are active in sports, church, community, theatre...you name it, this family makes it happen. I am so proud of them. So, imagine by surprise yesterday when I get to talk to my grandson Jackson and he says to me "Noni, you know what, I've got to tell you something that I did that is so cool and really good". I was waiting on bated breath for him to tell me he signed up for skydiving, or got a mini-bike...who knew? Then he tells me " Noni, I have scored tied with a girl in my class to be the best reader and I read the most books
!" My reponse "WOW Jackson, that is awesome, I am so proud of you....and what are your plans to beat her out for the most books?".... his reply " Just read and read Noni...thats what you do!". My heart melted and my pride was as big as all outdoors. You know, kids get it! We worry, we stress, we jump thru hoops all thru their lives, and in one small glimse of a moment, something so simple, so sweet, comes shining thru and you realize that they are just fine! I am so proud of my Jackson. AND, needless to say, the UPS man will be making a delivery this week to Horseshoe Lane with some new material for Boy Wonder. When I asked him what kind of books he'd like to read...in his totally boy way..."Well, kinda like Batman, Spiderman, Superman...good guy stuff!" My little hero!
